-Manages and ensures the efficient operation of the payroll (300+ employees) and benefits function and department
-Provides formal supervision to the payroll and benefits assistant and coach team members to further develop their role
-Assesses training needs of staff and make appropriate recommendations
-Create payroll and benefits schedules and timelines
-Audit semi-monthly payroll prepared by the Payroll and Benefits assistant
-Manage all payroll and benefits systems to ensure accuracy and integrity from both the user and administrator end
-Manage and resolve internal control weaknesses
-Manage operation of all benefits including medical, dental, life insurance, STD, LTD, COBRA, flexible spending programs, employee assistance programs, and retirement plans
-Analyse feedback from employees and work with brokers and vendors on new and existing plans to improve the benefits scheme
-Create and submit annual proposal of changes to the benefits policy and/or plans as needed to defray rising costs while remaining competitive within the market
-Manage sensitive benefits and payroll matters such as termination contracts, confidential leaves and other personal matters with poise and sensitivity
-Propose, vet and carryout wellness programs and benefits workshops
-Handle partner benefits on-boarding and maintain their US benefits and retirement scheme
-Manage the firms profit sharing program and retirement plan investment portfolio alongside the retirement committee
-Serves as the expert for payroll matters that are referred by the HR Manager, ensuring that all inquiries and cases are resolved as quickly as possible with a focus on providing superior customer service
-Evaluates processes on a regular basis and develops, implements and recommends policies and procedures designed to improve processes within the department
-Keeps abreast of tax and payroll compliance laws through research, seminars, literature
-Creates, audits, updates and maintains payroll and benefits policies and procedures
-Ensures timely communication of changes to payroll policies, procedures and regulations
-Participate in surveys for valuable feedback on competitive firm’s programs
-Coordinates with appropriate agencies and departments on a regular basis to ensure compliance with all government reporting requirements
-Ensures that quarterly forms, tax filings, annual reporting, year-end employee documents and are completed on a timely basis
-Audits quarterly and annual tax filings regularly
-Creates, maintains and delegates compliance action items from the master compliance calendar
-Manages accounting and tax functions for compliance and timely reporting
-Work with Accounting on budget process
-Restructure or update general ledger mapping and cost structure as necessarySupport the CFO and Financial Controller by providing analytical reports on headcount, salary, gross payroll, taxes paid, etc
-Approves all payroll system test plans prior to production updates
-Oversees systems implementation, integration file creation and static and dynamic programing to ensure end result is valid and accurate
-Manages year end project plans for year-end reporting on a global basis
-Liaise with the Global Benefits group on US plans and their global counterparts and assist with the overall global strategy
-Work with HR to complete annual compensation and bonus process
-Perform open enrollment orientation and actions as required to close a prior year and start anew

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-7+ years of progressive payroll experience (preferably in the legal industry)
-Comprehensive knowledge of Payroll best practices, applicable payroll tax and benefits related laws and regulations
-Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) strongly preferred
-Bachelors Degree in related field preferred
-Proven experience in dealing with complicated matters
-Expert knowledge of Benefit Programs such as FSA, Commuter transit programs, 401k administration
-Ability to keep abreast of industry trends
-Excellent oral and written communication skills
-Aptitude to learn new systems and programs quickly and apply knowledge to related situations
-Ability to create a friendly and professional rapport with attorneys, staff and external parties
-Strong attention to detail with exceptional organizational skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize changing priorities
-Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
-Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and to deal with abstract and concrete variables
-Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive matters and respond effectively to such situations
